QW6.0 (8/16/01) Weld Procedures and Workmanship Specimens
Weld workmanship specimens shall be furnished to the address listed below at least six (6) weeks in advance of production welding. The specimens are to be fabricated using the submitted welding procedure specification (WPS). The WPS must be prepared in accordance with the drawing requirements. The supplier shall make corrections to the WPS and refabricate workmanship specimens as required by GDLS to meet the minimum requirements of the drawing. Following (WPS) approval, the "weld specimens" and "approved procedure" will be returned and are to be maintained by the supplier during the terms of the contract.
Specimens must be identified to reflect the part number and the joint designation referenced in the WPS and must be kept in good condition and available in the fabrication area to assess the acceptability of production welds.
This procedure may require reapproval in the event of a drawing revision. The supplier is responsible for insuring the drawing revision cited on the WPS coincides with the drawing revision referenced by the purchase order. The WPS and specimens must reflect the practice used at all times. In the event that a change to the WPS becomes necessary, the revised WPS, and workmanship sample(s), if applicable, must be submitted to GDLS for approval prior to use.
